About Providenciales

Welcome to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. Affectionately known as Provo by the locals. Located 620 miles southeast of Miami and a little over ninety minutes flight time, Providenciales is fast becoming the vacation destination of the northern Caribbean. Daily flights from major air carriers provide easy travel planning to and from Providenciales, The departure tax is added into the price of the airline ticket. A passport is required for entry into the Turks and Caicos Islands. A valid return ticket is also required.  Small inter island carriers and ferries make visiting other islands possible. One of eight islands that make up the Turks and Caicos, Provo is the most populated and offers a variety of rental options, restaurants, shopping and water activities.

The average year round temperature on island is 83F with low annual rainfall and an abundance of sunshine. Sporting activities are centered around the water. Visitors can choose from deep-sea fishing, reef or bone fishing , scuba diving, snorkeling, para sailing or kite boarding. Windsurfing, horseback riding and exploring the history of the island are other activities. Pristine reefs, abundant marine life and excellent visibility make the Turks and Caicos Islands a world class diving destination.

Golfers will enjoy the beauty and challenge of the 18 hole Carl Litten designed course. If you are not a straight hitter bring lots of balls. The islands are an ecotourists' paradise. Visitors can enjoy unspoiled wilderness and native flora and fauna in 33 areas set aside as National Park Nature Reserves, sanctuaries and areas of historical interest.

Night life includes local bands playing traditional island music at bars and restaurants. There are several late night clubs and casinos for your enjoyment as well.

Casual resort and leisure wear is accepted attire for day time; light sweaters or jackets may be necessary for some breezy evenings. Visitors are advised to wear protective clothing and a sun hat and wear sunscreen when out in the tropical sun. Noon to two pm are the hottest hours of the day. A good time for a siesta.

The currency on island is the US dollar. Electricity is compatible with US appliances. Renters may be liable for payment of air conditioning. This service is metered separately and read at the beginning and end of the visitors' stay. Fed Ex, DHL and local post are available for mailing. High speed internet service is offered in most of the rental villas. The island has all modern communications. Check with your cell phone provider regarding cell phone service. There is an 11% accommodation tax added to your rental fee and paid to the government on your behalf.

Crime on island is low. But we urge visitors to exercise caution while out during the day and at night. And we recommend keeping your rental unit locked at all times even if you are just at the beach.

The importation of all firearms, including those charged with compressed air, without prior approval in writing from the Commissioner of Police, is strictly forbidden. Spear guns, Hawaiian slings, controlled drugs and pornography are also illegal,

A valid driver's  license from a visitors normal place of residence is suitable for renting a vehicle.  Driving is on the left hand side of the road. Taxis are abundant on island. Scooters and bicycles are also available for rent.

There are no endemic tropical diseases in the Turks and Caicos Island. A brand new state of the art hospital and air ambulance provide medical security while on island. Provo is also home to a decompression chamber for the rare diving emergency. Local pharmacies offer necessary medications and items of need during your stay.
